Kept My CPAP at 4 for Prerssure - weird result
- Quote
Postby matty_boston » Wed Feb 12, 2025 6:51 am
Hi,
I am new to wearing a CPAP and haven't really been able to fall asleep with it on.
I at first tried the default setting that were set on the machine with little success (5-15) ramp on, EPR at 2.
I then thought that if I could just experiment at the lowest constant pressure of 4, I could get used to it and see how it works. I wear it when awake watching TV and will doze off with it on for 30 minutes or so.
Whenever I lay down to try and sleep as I am drifting off it feels like I gasp for air and wake up.
I am wondering if the pressure might need to be adjusted?
Also I noticed from time to time a sound coming from the full face mask. It would eventually go away but notice the mask had a lot of condensation and was wondering if it was form that.
Looking for any advice as I am struggling with this machine.
Thanks!

Your CPAP humidifier may be set too high.

Most likely. Very few people do well at pressures below 7.0.
Which model machine do you have? Is it a ResMed AirSense 10 or 11 AutoSet?
We need to get you to use detailed data to help you determine the effective CPAP pressure settings.
Please stick to this one thread as you go through this process (titration).

This might be a mask leak. Find your model mask on YouTube and watch some videos on fitting and adjusting.

My advice:
1. Get a free account at SleepHQ.com.
2. Upload the data from your machine's SD card to SleepHQ.
3. Post the link to your data in this thread. (SleepHQ redacts all personal information.)
You may have to buy an SD card. They are available at many big box stores. 32GB is large enough. Example - https://www.walmart.com/ip/SanDisk-64GB ... /429347181?

Excellent advice.
I had settings from my sleep study.. working ok, but I used OSCAR and got good advice that helped improve my results.
I then tried again using SleepHQ after finding out about it. Dialed in even better.
SleepHQ is very easy to use.
I know that just chasing low AHI is not the end all, but after dialing in with the advice from SleepHQ, my AHIs are usually ~0.2 to 0.5. Some nights 0.0
I am also not waking as often.
I found it very helpful.
Best of luck!
