A new Mexican restaurant is coming to town, and it's stirring up excitement and debate! Guzman y Gomez, the beloved fast-food chain, is expanding its reach on the Sunshine Coast, and locals are buzzing with anticipation.
Get ready for a taste of Mexico as construction begins on the latest GYG restaurant in the Aura community. This 200sqm venue, complete with a drive-thru, will be a convenient spot for locals and visitors alike, located on Aura Boulevard, right across from McDonald's in Baringa.
But here's the real deal: GYG promises a unique dining experience. George Mandilis, the chain's chief development officer, highlights the site's accessibility and visibility, but it's the menu that will truly captivate. GYG is renowned for its commitment to fresh, authentic Mexican cuisine, made to order with high-quality ingredients. Say goodbye to preservatives, artificial flavors, and colors, and hello to delicious, healthy Mexican favorites like burritos, tacos, bowls, and nachos. It's fast food, but not as you know it!
The community is abuzz with excitement, with locals expressing their enthusiasm on social media. Tanisha Kennedy can't wait to try it, and Ronnie Y Young predicts GYG will be a massive hit. But every coin has two sides. Some residents have raised concerns about potential traffic congestion, while others are craving different fast-food options.
GYG is no stranger to the Sunshine Coast, with several successful venues already in Birtinya, Caloundra, Buddina, and Maroochydore. And the chain isn't slowing down; they're also opening a restaurant in Glass House Mountains and have their eyes set on Sippy Downs for a potential 2028 opening.
The founders, Steven Marks and Robert Hazan, have big dreams for GYG. With over 250 restaurants worldwide, they aim to open more than 30 new locations each year.
So, will GYG's expansion bring a much-needed culinary delight to the area, or will it create more traffic headaches? What do you think? Are you team GYG or team traffic-conscious? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
